Camp Week 2020

Last week our year 8s had their EOTC week. Where they partook in many activities such as Biking to Enfield and back, going to Orakanui Ecosantury to learn about their plants and wildlife, going to peel forest to orienteer and have some fun up in the high ropes course. We also spent Thursday and Friday together as year 8s where they split up into groups to do community activities. My favourite part of the week was orienteering at Peel Forrest, where we got to explore though out a massive bush land to try and find staples using only our brains and a map. a challenging bit for me was when we did the high ropes course on wednesday as we were so high up in the air with only a harness to hold us up. but in the end everything we did was very fun and i am so great full for our amazing teachers and parents that helped put this week together

The Week 4 100 Word Challenge

it is the year 2020 and we are in a war where everyone is fighting for many things such as human rights, gender equality, world hunger and so much more. In this photo the world green team is fighting against those who do not agree with the world hunger agreement that we have in place. As it is war worst has come to worst and the world green team has had to go against their mottos and start using more violent per say weapons, such as this large cannon that is shown here, it is located in there secret hideout.

Why we should have longer lunchtimes

 Oamaru Intermediate School

Wednesday 26 August 2020

Dear Mrs Healey,

Having been a student at Oamaru Intermediate School for the last year and a half, I feel that my peers and myself  would strongly benefit from having longer lunchtimes preferably extended from 1:25pm to 2:00pm. However not only my peers would benefit from such a change I believe that  our staff would benefit too. I have many reasons to support longer lunchtimes which are all outlined in this letter….

Firstly, during lunch time we only have one hour, and by the time you eat lunch, get changed for PE and go to the toilet. It's already 1:15pm and most of our lunch has been wasted from doing necessary things that we don't have a choice on whether we do or not. Furthermore, if we had longer lunch times then there would be more room for some needed discipline. Timeouts would be increased to longer times and I know that not many people would like to have a longer timeout  than necessary so this may positively affect children's behavior in  and out of the classroom.

Secondly, having longer lunchtimes would take a lot of stress away from teachers having to fit PE into our school curriculum. And without having PE in the school curriculum it would give myself and my peers more time to improve in other subjects such as reading, writing and maths. As at least 85% of our pairs already play sports during lunch, it would only be a matter of encouraging that 15% of students to try something new and get out there, you never know it may be something that they move on to loving for life all because of those amazing Oamaru Intermediate staff that encouraged them.

Finally, I believe that it wouldn't be such a bore at school if we had longer lunchtimes and that people would look forward to school more if we did. We would be able to socialise more, which might I add is very important to do at this age to ensure that we have healthy and stable relationships.. If longer lunchtimes were to affect how much work we were to get done there is always the opportunity to extend our school day by 30 minutes to make up needed times.

In conclusion I strongly believe that we should be having longer lunch times to improve ourselves academically and meantally. I also believe that you should carefully consider all my points that I have stated in this letter. I hope you come back to me with a positive final decision.

Your Sincerely,

Chloe

Why Do We Need To Exercise

Why Do We Need To Exercise? Exercise is a very important aspect in life, if you don't exercise your most likely to have bad health and bad health leads to a little chance of living. We need to exercise for at least 150 minutes a week to ensure that we are fit and healthy. But what exactly can we do to fill those 150 minutes and how can they improve our lives in dramastic mesures. We need to exercise to keep us happy, healthy, and fit. It is proven by doctors and scientists that exercise helps to keep you happy and healthy but alongside with that it's also proven to combat health conditions and diseases. Furthermore exercise helps keep you skin young and healthy which leads to less trips to the doctors and hospitals for deadly diseases like melinoma. In addition exercise can in some circumstances be used as a relief from physical pains such as back pain and joint pains. If done regularly, exercise can have many benefits in a bunch of different ways. Firstly it is said that regular exercise is a major help for muscle strength and longer, faster endurance. As Well as that, regular exercise can help your cardiovascular system (an organ system that helps to permit blood to circulate and transport nutrients) witch is also going to help you get better sleep at night. Exercise overall can improve your mood, behavior and well being. When exercise is not taken regularly health can take a turn for the worse and can start to plummet. These disadvantages include, your weight starts to increase. Your mood is dramatically affected causing you to be more grumpy towards not only others but yourself causing your mindset to be firmly fixed and your always self doubting yourself. In addition to this it makes it a lot harder to get your weight back on track as you're most likely to have gained more fat than muscle whilst not exercising. There are end on end of options when it comes to choosing what you would like to do with that 150 minutes of exercise. If you go to primary/highschool a better option for you might be to partake in a school sports team such as… Rugby, Netball, Basketball, ect ect. On the other hand if you do not go to school or you are just looking for some after school activities you might think about joining local sports clubs. But there isn't a need to be afraid to try new sports either, these might include yoga, karate or even tiquando. In conclusion it is very important to exercise regularly to ensure that we are keeping our mental health and also our physical health on track. So next time you are sitting on the couch eating potato chips think about the benefits a simple run, few times a week can do to benefit your health.

and then i saw it -100 word challenge

As I was taking a drive along the road on a normal sunday arvo I noticed I’d hit something, not big but still something. My first thought was ‘oh it's just a rock’ but how could I be so sure. I pulled over, hopped out and then I saw it, flat like a pancake. Bang smack in the middle of the road was something so horrid, so disgusting, so deadly I couldn't bear to look for longer than I had to. So I picked it up and plopped it on the side of the road, RIP hedgehog i said. Sunday, June 28, 2020 Week 12 100 Word Challenge Latest prompt Another student suggestion! It is: … and then I saw it …

Starting to get sick of quarintine

Day three

today i started with my business as usual, getting ready for my day when dad came over and asked me a horrid question something that i never want to hear something that made me itch inside and it was "can you go over to the wool shed and sort through the woll so that there ready for bails?" if you couldn't notice i HATED this job partly because it make me all itchy but because i knew how much wool there was and i knew that it was going to take me at least three hours to get this done. but anyway i slid into my gumboots put on my coat hopped on my quad bike and hooned over to the wool shed. to my surprise one of our workers were already there and to joy had half done the job. and even though i really didn't want to be there i still asked if they needed any help and thankfully they said no so i walked out the door back to the bike did a few victory laps and the way home and continued on with my day!
